Company Section Summer Camp

Sunday 12th August, 2007

Friday 29th June - Monday 2nd July
St. Andrews, Fife

Our summer camp this year was held in the beautiful surroundings of Craigtoun Country Park, St. Andrews. 16 Boys and 6 Officers of the 79th attended camp, and were delighted to welcome 3 Boys and 1 Officer from the 60th to join us.

Despite some very mixed weather, we enjoyed a wide variety of activities over the 4 days, including football, volley ball, cricket, rounders, Himalaya putting, a treasure hunt, swimming, and even a trip to the cinema (during one of the very wet periods). We also had free time to explore the park itself, and take advantage of the many activities there, as well as being let loose on the unsuspecting town of St. Andrews.

Over the weekend, we benefited from all the aspects of living together in a traditional B.B. camp. We extended existing friendships, and made new friends, as members of the 79th and 60th got to know one another. Everyone did their part to make the camp a success, with each tent taking their turn at duty squad, to carry out all the work required about camp. Tent inspection each morning ensured that everything was kept neat and tidy.

On Saturday, after some free time in the park, and some inter-tent competitions, we were pleased to welcome our Chaplain, Dr Kerr, and two of the Church Elders, Mr & Mrs Dunn, to join us for lunch. Dr Kerr also joined in a game of cricket, although he did decline the offer of football.

Thanks go to everyone for making a safe, enjoyable, and successful camp. Thanks to the advance party for all their hard work in getting the camp ready for the main party. Thanks to the Staff for all their organisation and work before, during, and after the weekend. Thanks to the staff of Craigtoun park for their assistance. Finally thanks to the Boys of both Companies, for participating in the true spirit of the Boys’ Brigade.
