Junior Section Display Report 2007
Adapted from Junior Section Display Report - Friday 18th May 2007The night started with our usual Opening Service and Inspection by Mr Roy Inglis, Captain of the 45th Glasgow Company (at least I remembered to have the Boys inspected this year!).
We then moved on to our usual variety of items, including Tumbling, Figure Marching, a Quiz and, of course, our games with audience participation - you didn't think the Boys were going to do it all on their own did you?
I would particularly like to mention the Figure Marching Squad. For those who may not know, we had entered the Boys into the Glasgow Battalion Figure Marching Competition, but due to unfortunate circumstances, they did not get the chance to compete. However, we made every effort to make up for this disappointment in the weeks that followed and the Boys were rewarded for their months of hard work and preparation. I think that you will agree that on the night of their Display, they carried out their routine, in the space available to them, to the best of their ability.
Well done Boys!!
Often the Boys' favourite part of the night is the presentation of awards and prizes - particularly the Group Competition Shield that they work so competitively for all year. This year was the closest that it has been for a few years now. Before our Closing Service, we invited the newly promoted 3rd Year Anchor Boys to join the Junior Section as they were officially our new 1st Year of the Junior Section. This was the first year that we have done this and we intend to continue this in the coming years.
Finally, a few thank-yous:
First of all to the our Guests at the top table. Thank you for being with us, and especially to our Inspecting Officer, Mr Roy Inglis for inspecting the Boys and for your kind words at the end of the evening. Thank you also to Dr Kerr for conducting our Opening and Closing Services and again, for your words of encouragement and support.
As outgoing Captain, I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank Mr Eric Rushworth for his years of help and support, not just in his Captaincy of the 79th, but when he was Officer-in-Charge of the Junior Section. Thank you. I would also like to welcome Mr Robbie Sutherland as our new Company Captain and wish him well in his new role.
It was lovely to see so many people at the Display to support the Boys - representatives from the Church and Congregation, Families and Friends. As Officer-in-Charge I would like to thank everyone for supporting the Boys and Staff and, in particular, the parents for encouraging your Boys to attend each week and to take part in competitions etc. Without you, there would not be a Junior Section and we look forward to seeing everyone back with us when we restart in August.
Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Staff Sergeants Ian Lamb and Gary Matheson to the Junior Section staff, as they join us in August after being discharged from the Company Section after serving the maximum time in the Company Section. We look forward to their help, and thank them both for continuing to help the 79th.
Thank you all once again, and we hope you have a great summer holiday.
Moyra Lamont
Officer-in-Charge
